Loch
Kinnabus is situated in the south of the island on
the Oa.
This is
the main Loch for the members of the Port Ellen
Angling Club.
The Loch
is full of hard fighting wild Brown Trout and will
be used as a bank venue.
The trout population of Kinnabus has improved
dramatically in quality and size over the last 5
years and fish can be taken all over the loch.
Several bays provide shelter in windier conditions
so finding a spot to cast is never a problem. The
loch's surroundings also offer a great chance to see
some wonderful wildlife, deer and birds of pray are
commonly spotted.
Kinnabus is part of the
R.S.P.B. reserve on the Oa and Port Ellen Angling
Club has a good relationship with them. A boat is
moored at the jetty on the loch and can be very
useful for getting to the centre of the larger bays,
float tubes are excellent on this loch, electric
outboards only are allowed on the boat. A large car
park and club hut welcome visitors to the loch.
Wading is good all around the loch, in particular on
the south side of the loch and the north east shore
where the little stream runs in from the school
loch.
